Fully Funded Scholarship Opportunity
Come be a part of an exciting new collaborative partnership between UMass Lowell and Lasell University that will prepare scholars with expertise in:
- Interdisciplinary training in special education, applied behavior analysis and autism studies
- Working collaboratively to improve educational and behavioral services and outcomes for school-aged children with autism and related disabilities
The University of Massachusetts Lowell Collaborative Opportunities in Applied Behavior Analysis and Special Education Targeting Autism and High-Intensity Needs (COAST) is funded by a grant from the Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services.
Please note: The COAST program is only open to United States residents and citizens.
Scholarship Details
- 32 students in total (16 students enrolled in UMass Lowell’s M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis & Autism Studies, Applied Behavior Analysis Option and 16 students enrolled in Lasell University’s M.Ed. in Special Education: Moderate Disabilities) will be awarded a full-time scholarship.
- Courses will be taken at both UMass Lowell and Lasell.
Students admitted to the COAST program will receive:
- Fully paid university tuition for two years
- Financial assistance to complete all required coursework at both universities
- $2,000 for travel costs
- $800 for books and materials
Degree Options
- M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism Studies, Applied Behavior Analysis Option (UMass Lowell) and 9 credits toward complementary graduate licensure in Moderate Disabilities (Lasell)
- M.Ed. in Special Education: Moderate Disabilities (Lasell University) and 9 credits towards a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis: BCBA (UMass Lowell)
Which Courses Will You Take?
Students can complete the COAST program in two years of full-time study, including the summer session. A capstone project is also required. Sample courses include:

- ED711 Curriculum and Assessment of Diverse Learners (from Lasell University)
Research Opportunities
Our program offers additional research opportunities related to staff training and bilingual language assessment, as well as language development in children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder.
Job Outlook
Graduates of the COAST program will find that they are in high demand as board-certified behavior analysts and licensed special education teachers.
