Siblings, from left, Martin, Justin and Jasmin Marwad hold their Guinness World Record certificates.
Martin, Justin and Jasmin Marwad of Woburn distinguished themselves academically while at UMass Lowell, earning five bachelor’s degrees between the three of them in 2023. They have since gone on to international distinction for their degree-earning prowess, setting a Guinness World Record for the most family members (three) to graduate in the same academic year from the same university in consecutive years.
All three siblings graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 2023. Jasmin, who was just 18 at the time, also got a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, as did Martin. The trio continued their studies at the university and earned master’s degrees in computer science in 2024.
“We thought it was pretty notable,” Martin says of their academic achievement. They contacted Guinness World Records, but didn’t expect much would come of it.
“We were pretty amazed when it was accepted,” Martin says.
In late October, they received certificates of their record-holding status.
Justin and Jasmin are now doctoral students in computer science at UMass Lowell while working full time at Teradyne. Martin is preparing to launch a startup.
The siblings, who were homeschooled, credit their parents for their success. Martin says UMass Lowell helped them prepare for the professional world.
“The environment at UMass Lowell helped with meeting faculty and connecting with other students,” he says “It helps you get into the mindset for your future career.”
