What is a Francis College of Engineering (FCOE) Ambassador?
The mission of the FCOE Ambassadors is to seek and support the growth and improvement of the Francis College of Engineering at UMass Lowell through collaboration with faculty, administration, student body, and alumni.
Ambassadors are a diverse group of students who bring demonstrated leadership and passion together to make positive impacts in the College. FCOE Ambassadors engage in a variety of mission-based efforts, such as conducting tours for prospective faculty and students, hosting forums connecting students to one another and to the faculty, interacting with alumni on behalf of the department, and many other internally and externally focused projects. As student ambassadors, we are dedicated to building and maintaining the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s College of Engineering as one of the best programs in the country through these types of tasks and in our daily life and habits.
Purpose:
- To identify a select group of students who are dedicated to enhancing the image of and interest in UMass Lowell and the Francis College of Engineering.
- To train these students to be effective hosts during special university events and programs.
- To provide these students with benefits, both direct and indirect, such as opportunities for developing leadership skills and building professional and social self-confidence.
Expectations:
- Maintain in good academic standing (Minimum 2.500 Grade Point Average (GPA))
- Be willing to volunteer nights and weekends.
- Maintain professional behavior, and wear professional branded attire (provided), when representing as an ambassador.
- Be willing to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders ranging anywhere from potential students to high-level executives.
- Participate in a minimum of 2 events per semester, plus mandatory events like Open House (2 in fall semester), Engineering Week (1 event in February) and Welcome Day (1 in spring semester).
Duties:
- Participate in a monthly meeting and training session workshops.
- Participate in at least two events per semester (in addition to the mandatory events mentioned above) to stay as an active ambassador.
- Promote the program internally and encourage peers to become Francis College of Engineering Ambassador members.
- Provide feedback to the Dean's Office regarding campus culture.
All applicants must be:
- A full-time undergraduate engineering student at UMass Lowell, or a graduate engineering student who has previously been an Ambassador.
- Enrolled in one of the engineering programs available. Remain in good academic standing with a 2.500 GPA or higher.
All students selected as Ambassadors will serve for the remainder of their time as an undergraduate student at the school, or until the student decides to step down, whichever should come first.
