Community-Engaged Research: From Research Design to Dissemination

This session will highlight a number of concrete approaches for engaging in community-centered research approaches and methodologies. The speaker will draw on more than a decade of experience in long-standing research-practice partnerships with school districts, schools, and school support organizations to model examples of co-design, shared meaning making, and dissemination strategies grounded in access and relevance.

Bio: Dr. Adriana Villavicencio is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Her research is focused on K-12 educational policy and practice that deepen or disrupt inequities for students who are typically marginalized because of race, ethnicity, and immigration status. Specifically, she uses mixed-methods designs and community-engaged approaches to study the implementation and impact of models and interventions that aim to meet the needs of historically marginalized students, while highlighting the voices and experiences of educators, families, and students.
